Paras Shah
Paras Shah, who is legally blind, is the John Gardner fellow at Human Rights Watch. He has interned with the United States Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division in Washington, where he assisted in enforcement and implementation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. He has also been a political intern in the District Office of Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez of California. Paras graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with degrees in history and political science.

Disability has always been my least favorite word in the English language. It’s the word that catches in my throat and forces my pen to pause midthought. I can easily apply this term of difference, of alienation to others….
